The Random Postcard Project involved choosing a number from 1-100, and emailing it in. The reply consisted of one word, with which to produce artwork on a 4x6" postcard, which in turn was posted to Random House.
I did many postcards, including Dorothy's ruby slippers (for the word 'red') - which has become one of my most popular shoe images (it is still not for sale, but I may produce limited edition postcards in the near future).
I also included some paper engineered 'boxes', and used cutout shapes too.
This was a Commission for the Ebbisham Centre in Epsom.
The Ebbisham Centre wanted art for several spaces that reflects the area. My proposal included this image of horses jumping a fence. The image is abstracted and in bright colours for the café area of the centre.
I chose the horses as a symbol for something Epsom is well known for: the Epsom Races.
I have kept small sketchbooks continuosly since I was 15. These consist of drawings, writing, collages, pop ups and other pieces of paper engineering, and assorted items that are small enough to fit within the pages that are found in my daily life.
The sketchbooks are interestingly, a barometer of my life inasmuch as that when there are a lot of drawings in them, I tend to have the time to hang out at cafés, or in the street or park to sketch. When they are full of scribbled writing and poetry, I tend to be much busier, or at least have my time taken up in other ways than hanging about in greasy spoons.
